Comissioned by Selwyn District Council as a centerpiece for the council chambers, this table supports an ornamental waka. The live edges of the tree were used and turned with an inset of blue green glass to represent the Selwyn River.
The entire table is made from one single piece of Totara, ethically sourced from a windfallen tree. Totara was selected as the wood for this table as Maori Waka were traditionally made from Totara, due to the light strong timber, and it's durable qualities. The base is assembled with handcut interlocking bridle joints, chosen for strength and their bold visual contrast.
